Oct. 1, 2009 - MELITEK are proud to announce the launched of a new generation MELIFLEX XT materials for tubing applications, specially developed for infusion-set-tubing and catheters. The new generation of MELIFLEX XT materials offers improved clarity and lower costs compared to earlier generation XT materials.
The new MELIFLEX XT are polyolefin based and oil free elastomers that offers unique grades containing targeted tubing applications within blood transfer, dialysis, drug delivery systems and catheters. The good chemical stability of the MELIFLEX polymers makes them excellent for tubing used in administration of solutions such as chemotherapy drugs, nitroglycerine and insulin as its migration and absorption rates are low. Furthermore, results from customers reveals that tubing of MELIFLEX demonstrates very good properties in peristaltic pump applications common in drug infusion and dialysis procedures.
Tubing made from MELIFLEX matches PVC in transparency, flexibility, kink resistance and withstands use of roller-clamps and it does so without DEHP (DOP) or any other plasticizer content. The material has water vapor properties superior to PVC, and has greater resistance to chemicals without the fear of phthalate or plasticizer migration.
MELIFLEX withstands sterilization by EtO, gamma and E-beam. Moreover the polymers can be bonded to e.g. ABS, Acrylic, PC and PVC using standard solvents such as cyclohexanon or THF.
In addition, MELITEK offers flexible injection molding (MELIFLEX XM) grades for e.g. drip chambers and various connectors.
MELIFLEX is available in a wide range of hardness's and flexibilities, it meets requirements of ISO 10993-5 and USP Class VI and only contains additives approved and listed by the European Pharmacopoeia. The polymer has good blood compatible and has a very low drug absorption hence minimizing inconsistencies in dosage. Finally it shall be noted that MELIFLEX is environmentally sound, the polymers are non-hazardous and easily disposable without concerns of dioxin emissions and/or hydrogen chloride given off during the incineration of PVC.
